Jay Breese is a Colorado artist who has been painting the landscapes of Colorado for more than fifty years. His paintings express his passion for the beauty and wildness of the landscapes, vistas, and wildlife of Colorado and the Mountain West. Painting primarily plein air, he begins most of his paintings on location which enables him to capture the unique mood and atmosphere of each site. Jay works in watercolors and oils, often spending time painting in Rocky Mountain National Park. He loves the spontaneity and transparency of watercolors and feels it is the medium that best translates the freshness, immediacy, and atmosphere of each setting. Jay says that each painting has a story; whether it’s the wind and rain that came up quickly, blew his easel down and scattered his brushes; or the doe and fawn that wandered silently into the scene. He endeavors to tell that story in each painting. Jay loves it when people recognize the site in his paintings and he hopes you will feel the spirit of each place as you are inspired, as he is, by its beauty. Jay studied art with many renowned and some not yet well-known artists. He is a member of numerous arts organizations, including the Colorado Jewish Artists’ Guild. He is a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society and is represented by The Arts at Georgetown, Georgetown, Colorado. He has been invited into numerous juried shows in Denver, Vail, and Estes Park and his work is currently featured in many collections.
